I am one of those writers who, if given the chance, would continue to edit her writing even after it has been published. I know it’s ridiculous, but each time I read something I have written, my head is in a different place, thus altering the way I receive the material. What seems perfect wording and rhythm on a good writerly Tuesday stutters to a halt when reread the morning after. John Coetzee once told me that when he finishes a manuscript, there isn’t a single word he wants to change.

So, here I am, putting more finishing touches to my new (much revised) historical fiction manuscript about South Africa in the 18th century. I would like to say more, but I shouldn’t reveal the story until I have an interested publisher. Suffice it to say that class and race play major roles, giving the limelight to a delicious love story that will turn your expectations upside down.
